Boxes
Classy wooden boxes can be used for so many purposes and I love how versatile they are! Gift boxes, jewellery boxes, display boxes, organisational boxes and many more!

Japanese Toolbox Style Boxes
These boxes were inspired by a style of Japanese toolbox. Just pull out the tapered pin and slide the lid to open the box. The handles on the side make lifting them easy! These four are made from walnut (dark brown), maple (pale), cherry (warm brown) and padauk (red).

Display Knife Box
This gorgeous box was custom made for a high-quality knife to replace the plain cardboard box it came in. It has a lift-off style lid and feathered mitre joints. The curly poplar gives a stunning wood grain on the lid and the base can be removed to put the knife on display!

Spinning Puzzle Box
This tricky box is made from silky oak salvaged from firewood, with a lid made of red gum from an old garden sleeper. The handcut dovetails turn the corners into a feature. Most uniquely, this box can only be opened using a secret trick! Pins hold the lid in place until the box is spun! Perfect for keeping thieving fingers away or as a puzzle box to contain a birthday present.

Marquetry Bird Paint Box
This is a beautiful 400 x 200 x170mm paint box I built for my wife. It is made from fiddleback silver wattle, which features a range of colours and subtle shimmer across the grain. The box also features hand cut dovetails. As per request, the lid displays a marquetry bird design. The background of the bird is made from figured red gum. The bird itself is made from hand cut veneers of blackbutt, spotted gum, silver ash, wenge, African mahogany and Queensland walnut. Each pieces was individually cut, and I burnt the edges to add depth to the image. The hinged lid opens to reveal a tray with thick fiddleback red gum sides to hold paint brushes. The tray can be taken out and fits snuggly in the underside of the lid (held open flat by the hinges) while painting. Under the tray is a spacious compartment for paints and other art supplies.

Clear-Lid Box
This box is made from incredibly rare fiddleback red gum, creating the streaks across the grain, with a solid silky oak base! It has two barrel hinges and magnets to hold the lid shut. The clear acrylic top allows visibility for interesting displays. I chose to leave the natural witchetty grub holes on the sides, which allows the story of the timber to be incorporated into the piece, and was useful in pulling yarn through without getting it tangled!
